SOLD: Meade ETX-60 Go-To Telescope, Eyepieces, Solar Filter

This was my first scope, and helped me to learn & appreciate the night sky.
Selling reluctantly beacsue I now have 2 more scopes .. and the wife is watching.

Meade Description
The ETX-60AT is Meade’s ‘pocket rocket’ from the ETX family of compact, electronically-controlled, go-to telescopes. Many of these are high-powered, narrow-field Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes, but the ETX-60 is a 60mm x 350mm, f/5.8, multi-coated Achromatic Refractor that provides exquisite widefield optical performance in an easy to use, ultra-portable, lightweight package. It’s the ultimate in automated ‘grab and go’ convenience - take it with you anywhere at a moment's notice!

The Autostar 494 hand controller can automatically locate over 1,400 celestial objects from its internal database. After an easy, 60-second alignment of the telescope's computer to the sky, you can find and observe named stars, double stars, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, the moon and the major planets from Mercury to Neptune. Just select the target from a scrolling menu in the Autostar display, press GO TO, and watch as the telescope moves to place the object in the field of view. Once an object is located, Autostar directs the telescope to track it automatically. And if you want to explore the sky but aren’t sure what you might enjoy seeing, a “Tonight’s Best” guided tour will automatically determine what can be viewed at that time, date and location, and take you to the best objects one by one at the press of a button!

Items Included:
- Meade ETX-60 GoTo Telescope
- Autostar 494 Hand Controller
- Flexible Focusser (makes focussing at zenith & high elevations much easier)
- Meade 25mm plossl eyepiece for wide-field images (14x)
- Meade 9mm plossl for general viewing of star clusters & nebulas (39x)
- Meade 6.4mm super plossl for general views of the Moon & planets (55x)
- Celestron 4mm plossl for higher-magfication views of Moon & planets (88x)
- Seymour Solar Filter for ETX-60/70 (full arperture for safely viewing the Sun)
- Soft Carry Bag that holds the entire kit
- New Astronomy Calendar 2008 (RRP 14.95)

The whole kit weighs about 5kg, so it's very easy to pack or carry when travelling and its 6 internal AA-batteries power the telescope for over 20 hours in the field.

$290 for the lot including packaging in original Meade ETX box and registered postage within Australia.

Inquiries by PM please.

Hi SFlySnuka,

I have always simply used the ETX on a small wooden coffee table (has 3 rubber feet on the flat round base for this purpose). I once tested with a Meade tripod, but found that sitting at a small coffee table was more stable & comfortable than bending over a tripod.

A former work colleague purchased his ETX-90 new with the Meade tripod, but also stated that he never uses his tripod.

Hope this helps.
Cheers, Jeff

Short Tube Refractor OTA from this scope is also suitable as a Guide Scope
(for someone lucky enough to own a SCT for serious astrophotography).

I have added some specifications for the OTA below from Meade.
  • Optical Design: Achromatic Refractor
  • Optical Diameter: 60mm
  • Focal Length: 350mm
  • Focal Ratio: f/5.8
Cheers,
Jeff
