Disappointed at the weather in brisbane tonight, Having only 20 minutes of viewing between clouds (4 x 5 minute sessions).

It was the first time I've been able to view Orion through my new 30mm eyepiece, which was a stunning if not rudely brief experience. Being able to see it all in the FOV + the extra detail that the EP was able to pull out of it compared to the others I have!

The next 2 windows allowed for some very interesting events..

I was looking at N4755 for a brief momentn... whilst peering through the scope I noticed what appeared to be a slow moving star that whilst it wasn't "shooting", I assumed was a meteor... A few minutes after the cloud cover sent me back under the veranda, my curiosity got the better of me, So I went to my laptop, took a gander at starry night, and found it was actually a telecommunications satellite. Uridium47 (spelling???)

Went back to the scope around 20 mins later and began to peer up towards M45, and an actual meteor shot straight through the center field of vision... Although it was only a fraction of a second glimpse, it was the highlight of my evening...

The final 5min viewing was my nightly check on Jupiter (yep.. its still there) and due to the whispy veil of cloud, it was fairly uninteresting...

Hopefully the sky is a bit more friendly over the weekend... (forecasts tend to point towards indoor activities.. )

It's always cloudy when you buy new astro gear.
Too much moon now and cloud for the next 6 days here.
Might clear up for Anzac day.

I went outside with the binos a few times but it was definately not worth getting the dob out. I think i'll spend the weekend under the landy tinkering.

Yeah... For me, pulling the dob out is still a novelty... Im sure the frequency of its use will decline a bit, but at the moment its still coming out every night if the weather permits... So much to see... so little time...

I hope its gunna be a good w/end next week for anzac day and observing at night may it be cloud free where ever you are.

It's always a bit of a thrill to have a meteor pass through your FOV.
Something you'll never get tired of.
I don't mind the clouds so much when the moon is so full. It also gives you a chance to do other stuff like be with the family.

Kevnool - Yeah, Fingers are crossed for good clear weather over the long weekend!! hope you get much of the same!

Jeanette - Yeah time with the family is fun, but i've spent the past 23 years with them, spending a bit of time with nothing but me and clear dark cloud free skies isnt too much to ask!
