Autoguiding with ST2000 and HEQ5PRO mount
Hi once again
Just a quick question to the group regarding auto guiding from a ST2000 and a HEQ5PRO mount. I am having big problems guiding with this setup. For those familiar with the camera, when I do a calibration it falters regularly with the Y Calibration. On the occasions that I have "Calibrated it" whenever I try to auto guide with it eventually the guide star will disappear out of the top of the view window. It appears that in the Y axis the system does not reduce the error but in fact makes it worse. It has taken me the last 4 EXCELLENT viewing nights to get to where I am now and this morning I checked the pin outs of the Camera and the input pin assignments on the mount. Well, it seems that the +Y and -Y connections are reversed... IE the +Y output (UP in my opinion) from the camera goes to the -DEC or Down input on the mount. The X axis seems to be correct with the +X output (Right in my opinion) from the camera going to the -RA or Right input of the mount. So I got to thinking this is odd, and so looked at my trusty version of Stellarium and found that the Dec axis goes from 0 to -90 in the southern hemisphere and 0 to +90 in the northern. My logic here is then that the camera being american, is outputting the Y axis in accordance with the Dec axis in the northern hemisphere ... and so my dilemma. Still thinking, I'm saying to myself, SURELY if my thinking is right then this phenomenon would HAVE to be known about and so then why isn't there a control in the software to reverse the Y axis ??? . I haven't made a patch cable yet to try my theory and thought that in the meantime I would pose this question to the group. So ... IS my logic correct here ? I look forward to your inputs
UPDATE UPDATE
After tests this afternoon, I have found that one of the four auto guider inputs into the mount doesnt work, so that will explain the problem. Mount is in transit for warranty as I type.
