G'day everyone,
Here's an image I did a few months back of the galaxy NGC-55 in Sculptor. This is about the best image I've been able to get of this galaxy so far, I have tried in prior years but it has a low surface brightness and prior attempts haven't been too great.
I was quite pleased with this image since it really does show the galaxy well with lots of interesting details.
One of the amazing things about this galaxy is it's size, STAR AtlasPRO (HyperLEDA Database) reports this galaxy is 27.5' x 5.6' arc-minutes in size and has a B-Magnitude of 8.26 with a surface brightness much fainter at Magnitude 21.75 per square arc-second.
The galaxy is a SBm type which means Spiral-Barred-irregular type galaxy, in fact the same type of galaxy as is the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Now here's something interesting - NGC 55 was first discovered by astronomer James Dunlop at Paramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
Image was done with my 12" GSO scope riding on the G-11 mount.
