Help! Registax keeps bombing out at frame 3477

I have just tried to process some large .avis with 5000 or more frames (but less than the 10000 maximum) and when alignment hits frame 3477 it stops and comes up with a message 'Cant read .avi frame'. It is the same for any large file. I can't go to the frame list and deselect this frame because it pops up with the same message and Registax stops working. Am I missing something? I am only a beginner at this, and there could be something obvious I have forgotten.

Thanks,
David

I've been sent the tip: split the avis with Virtualdub first and then load.

Sounds like the go. What is the mb size of the avi David?

You could also run it through PCFE (see files section) if you are doing Jupiter or Saturn. It will crop your images to whatever size you want it to be, so that if Jupiter only covers 300x300 pixels you can set you it to crop at 350x350 which will make Reg run faster. It will also initially sort your images with best ones first so all you do is drag the best "whatever" percentage into Reg and let it do it's stuff.

The files are over 100 Mb. They are solar hydrogen-alpha images, so I can't really play the cropping game, but I'll check out PCFE to see if I can do some early culling.

Unfortunate it won't unless it is the whole sun. Doesn't like it otherwise.

I'm pretty sure ninox has a setting now where it can still rank the frames, but not do any cropping.

Good for hi-res moon and sun images.

Oh and yes the large avi file limit is very annoying for Registax. Apparently it has to be under 2gig.

Splitting it up will help, or capture in shorter runs.

Or, convert to bmp and drag into registax as bitmap files. That works too.

Cor tells me the next version of registax will be able to handle larger avi files.

Gee I'd forgotten about the original DOS version and its upgrade. Boy it's been awhile
