GPUSB adapter broken?

I'm going to be very disappointed if it's broken.. it's crystal clear tonight, and it's new moon on Saturday.

If my GPUSB adapter is broken I can't autoguide, so no DSO imaging.

When I plug it in, no light comes on, no "beep" from the computer.

It happened once the other night, but after unplugging/plugging back in a few times it eventually came to life. Tonight, no joy.

Oh and there's nothing wrong with the USB ports. All other devices are working ok.

Anyone have any other suggestions except for it being broken?

Thanks

I hadn't, but I have now. And no joy. Still no light on

GPUSBCheck just fails because it can't connect to it.

Anyone living near me have a spare GPUSB adapter they don't need on Saturday night

So disappointing.. why couldn't it happen on full moon!

Can you open the black box and do a visual check for loose wires or dry solder joints?

Cheers

I am desperate. But I got a reply from Doug from Shoestring (great service)

This doesn't sound good. The early version of this product has the USB cable coming into the box, then the wires are stripped and inserted into holes in the pc board. My guess is that one of the wires has come loose. If you wish, please open up the box and see if this is correct. If it is, it could quickly be fixed with a solder iron. If not, let me know and we will arrange an exchange.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
I'll try that today and see if it's an easy fix for a 5-thumbs electronics wizard like me

Well Doug was right - one of the wires from the USB cable had come loose.

I'll try soldering it back in when I get home tonight.

Fingers crossed.

I poked the wire back in the hole and plugged it into the USB here at work, and the light came on

So far so good. Just need to blue-tac it or solder it tonight and she'll be right

I don't recommend blue-tac for this type of work.
It produces halos around your stars.

Go for the blu-tak Mike. If you are anything like ol' 5-left-thumbs here you'll end up with circuit board with a solid back of solder

No Mike, definetly solder it, otherwise you will come unstuck during a night of clear skies half way through an imaging run.

ROFL made me laugh out loud on the train.

I can just see it now.. I send it back to Doug because it doesn't work, he opens it up and goes "what the!?!".
