ngc 2808

NGC 2808 7 x 3 min exposures iso 800 cannon 300d and the 12 inch newt just an exercise in presentation to dolly up an otherwise average subject. hope you like it

i have added another pic this time with less blue, it probably is too blue, my main reason for submitting this image was to provoke a discussion on borders and text added to images, ive pushed the envelope with those i have added for that reason (see a few posts on for adjusted colours) Also i wanted to see how much the added text effects the quality of the outputted image as a whole for sharpness jpg compression etc

I do like it... I used to think of it as 'average', too... but in this image it looks like a 'must see' tourist destination!

I like the image, although it has a bit of a cyan cast to it on this laptop.

The presentation is probably a bit too much, imo. The font is too big. I think the presentation on any image should be more subtle, and not detract from the object itself.

happy to recive an honest opinion.

it was just an experiment, im not a big fan of any writing to be honest. i wll check the color balance a bit closer, you might be right.

addendum: i have checked the backgroud colour balance and its bang on, the glob itself has a blueish look to it , i let that slide just in case it was the stars themselves, as the yellow stars are clear in the front..... however i could still be wrong...... once again im happy to recieve an honest opininion

Another lovely image - some alchemy in that for sure!

I like the colours, a bit less blue maybe? but then maybe not?

You are clearly doing something with your DSLR images that others using similar gear aren't. Do you have links to higher res versions of your images? Your work is turning me to the dark side...regardless of the inevitable drop in resolution that would occur, I think I need a DSLR? - much more convenient in a weather fickle environment with an essentially portable setup to be able to take all colours in one go!

I think that is above a average shot for sure. Tack sharp and I like the colors!
It does look slightly blue/green but my monitor is slightly on the cool side.
cheers Gary

Ah yes - now you're talking Alch!! Very nice!

I also think you can safely lower the tone of the distracting text!

Cheers, Marcus

Hi Alchemy, I don't mind that style of font at all. I have always been partial to those types that make a statement. Maybe a few points smaller would be better.

I also like the comic sans font, as Douglas Adams would say "large friendly letters".

The image still looks great.

Cheers

Clearly too much free time on my hands, still a bit of fun.

To all the others who replied, thanks for looking,

Mike- the strong variety. i have some images at the website below at the bottom of this post. on the front page theres a link to images 07, 08 please note the images as you go back reflect the improvements made so dont expect old stuff to be tack sharp. most images are set at 50% size and about .6 meg, theres the odd big one but anything above 1 meg has a warning. If you really want a dslr i guess as a favour to you i could part with mine for your oversize ccd camera
