A nice story – the generous spirit within our Ice In Space community.

Dear Friends,

A knock at the door this morning brought a package from Stuart (Beren) containing a Vixen F6.3 Focal Reducer/Corrector and some extension tubes for my Vixen ED102S F9 refractor. Stuart had previously PM’d me offering me the set and wouldn’t accept any payment for them – a generous, kind gesture indeed.

Following in his footsteps, I will also endeavour to “Pay it forward” with any surplus gear that I may have, as it warms the heart and nourishes the soul to see such acts of generosity within our community, right here on Ice In Space.

Onya Stuart – many thanks for the gear and equally well, the inspiration your generosity has provided! I hope I haven’t embarrassed you through outing your kindness!

Cheers

Dennis

PS - Pay It Forward is the title of a movie, about the notion of paying a favour not back, but forward - repaying good deeds not with payback, but with new good deeds.

Dennis is being humble, too.. he has already paid it forward. He has kindly given Steve (janoskiss) the camera adapter he was after - for nix!

Great to see the sharing and caring within our community.

Well done Stuart, that's the type of thing that sets this forum apart from others.

I believe you're also to be congratulated for an act of generosity, Dennis.

Now what I find scary, even scarier than H0ughy’s fully (over) laden equipment trailer, is that this post just appeared on a Google search I ran to confirm that I had the correct configuration using the Vixen F6.3 reducer.

Ya just never know who is watchin’

Cheers

Good one Den, I recall you selfishly going out of your way a while back, even if aviation was the ulterior motive.

Kudos to you Dennis.
I know how much you've helped me and many others here.

I think we have to remember we are a very lucky lot, if you scratch the surface you'll find many such stories of generosity here throughout the IIS membership, many of which no one else hears about.

That's what makes this such a great community to be part of, the mateship and willingness to give in so many ways, without expectation of a reward or self gain.

Yep - Stuart's generosity certainly embodies the spirit of this place. In my time here, I've read about kind acts from people like H0ughy, Bert and Gary to mention just a couple. When "outed", these more public acts certainly help honour those that as you say, remain under the radar.

Cheers

Dennis, I just received the camera adapter you sent me! It looks and feels great. A lot sturdier than I expected. And you even sent it express, all at your expense. Thank you! I'll do my best to pay your kindness and generosity forward.

Hi Steve

You are most welcome - I’m glad that it arrived safe and sound. I was quite excited to hear from you about the public program you operate and so was very pleased to be able to contribute something to the good work you are doing. I’m sure that your digiscoping activities will be well received by the attendees.

I have a lot of admiration for those who participate in public outreach programs, as I do very little myself in that domain. For all you ambassadors of amateur astronomy, take a bow yourself for all the time and energy you give in bringing the joy of astronomy to the uninitiated.

Cheers

Dennis

In the spirit of this thread, I would just like to give a shout-out to leon who helped me out enormously at the start of my imaging journey.
Out of the blue, he sent me 2 pristine Pentax lenses (135mm and 200mm) as a gift in order to get me started - I was blown away by this gesture and the continuing generosity of this true gentleman. And, I'm sure I'm not the only IIS member he's helped out
Gotta give credit where it's due - Cheers leon you're a star!

Top stuff Leon – although some people are shy or modest with their kindness, it is nice when such acts of generosity are “outed” – it’s always refreshing to read of the good news when it happens.

Cheers

It certainly is a wonderful forum that we have here, as well as the astronomical community as a whole, every person that I have ever met or spoken to in regards to astronomy has always been helpful and prepared to spend time explaining things or just have a chat.

Cheers
