Did You Know

Hi guys did you know that in 1865 it was the only time in recorded history that there wasn't a full Moon in the month of February

Just some useless information, you can see that I'm waiting for the night to get dark and the Moon to rack off.

Leon

That was a pretty amazing bit of trivia, which got me thinking about the next time a February ocurs that is without a full moon, so I went and checked 3 or 4 "moon calculators" online.

Now here's the snag - they all tell me that there was a full moon in February 1865 - Feb 10th, approx 16:25 UTC.

Can you tell me where you got your data from Leon because now I'm curious to delve a bit deeper and see which February's do and don't have full/new moons.

Aha !!!!

Ok, problem solved I suspect - it appears that February 1866 was the one without a full moon!

Full moon occured on Jan 30th at 20:28, & then March had 2 of them, Mar 1st 11:51 and Mar 31 4:31 ..... bad month for observing!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

February 1870 however had no New Moon - even worse!
March 1870 had only 1 New Moon, but April made up for it finally by having 2...
Apr 1 02:00 & Apr 30 18:38.

Cheers!

It appears February 1885 also had no full moon, with both January and March having 2 each - greedy buggers!

Same occurred again in 1915 - none in Feb, 2 each in Jan and March.

I was lucky Leon to do a google search and find those 2 very useful sites!
All I had to do was clink on the years one by one to see the data.

Gotta love the net!

Thanks for the links Steve, there was a lot of great link to other stuff as well.

I found out that I am 200 Mercury years old and only 30 Martian years old.

Cheers
