laser finders

My apologies as this is a commercial post....with the discussion earlier about lasers (and their un-availability in Victoria) I may be persuaded to import some
provided enough people are interested. The link is here

if I accidentally pointed it at a street light say 50 metres away, would I accidentally damage the street light causing it to no longer function?

Good luck! I've accidentally tried that several times, accidentally like, and haven't managed to accidentally turn them off.

This is in a related thread, but needs it here as well.

Greater than 1MW in Victoria is a PROHIBITED WEAPON.
Yep, if you get caught in possesion of or using a laser of greater than 1MW in VICTORIA you are going to be in deep trouble. Like a maximum $6000 and or 12 months in a prison.

But you can get them, if you apply for a permit, and have no history of doing illegal stuff.

Here is the info regarding what is a prohibited weapon...

And here is the application form to own and use one...

http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content...Media_ID=10525

Good luck!

Other people on IIS have bought lasers from Ebay and they have been intercepted by customs. If you imported a number of them, even if you had a license to use one, I don't think customs would allow you to actually "get" them. I would just get a permit and buy one for yourself from someone in Australia. They are not a big price tag item so the savings would be minimal and you would have to show some appropriate documentation to customs etc.

BTW, I have a permit.

There are many vendors in States other than Victoria that import laser pointers.

We have imported many 30mW units in past. In short, customs don't have a problem if the port of landing is outside Victoria.
