M42 from last night

Last night I set up for another longer exposure RGB attempt at M42 with the DSI. Unfortunately the clouds did not cooperate so I only managed to get the Red and Blue channels. I spent a bit of time drift aligning this time but didn't get it perfect. Here's the red channel 40x15sec exposures.

I also had my first attempt at a piggyback shot of M42 with the 400D. 1x30sec ISO800. Focus was pretty quick and dirty and some star trails. I don't have a remote so this was shot using the 10 sec self timer but quite satisfying for a first try.

Comments/help welcomed.

Very nice Peter, the close up of the beak as I call it looks great.

I find this area of M42 one of the real fascinating parts.

Cheers

Nice work Peter, you've captured some nice detail on the hi-res shot. Where did you find the hole in the clouds though? LOL.

It's great that you've resolved the trapezium

That wide-field shot is great for a first attempt

Thanks for the comments. I'm really looking forward to some clear nights again. Setting up all this gear just to have the clouds come rolling in is very frustrating.
