Going to Wonthaggi for stargazing on Saturday night...

hey

I'm planning on heading off to a dark sky site near Wonthaggi on Saturday night. My planned site is right on the beach, and I know all the crap that comes from getting in close proximity with the almighty Bass Strait - clouds, wind, fog, scud, cold, etc.

Forecast on Sat is Fine for both Sat and Sun for Melbourne, but this far south at Wonthaggi I am worried about the risk of cloud and wind. Is there likely to be cloud and excessive ocean wind on Sat night? Charts show a easterly to northeasterly airstream, but strong seabreeezes can always develop and bring cloud with it aswell.

Any thoughts/recommedations?

^^Sweet. I'll check it out. Might actually end up being far better as it's a bit inland, if it's an ideal place to set up ofcourse.

Good luck, SAB. When you say on the beach, do you mean right on the beach? If there's surf, you may get all the sea spray muck rolling in?

I've been there before, but a couple of years ago. If my memory serves me right, it's a dirt carpark next to a river about 200m inland.

First I'll check out this "Bass Hill" place

Turn left onto Daylston-Gen Forbes road from the highway (southbound) and follow it and then head onto McDowell and Beacon Roads.
