Beginners M42

Hi all,

Now that I think that I have everything OK to go equipment wise (I am sure there will be more purchases coming up – there always is something……) but had a bit of a playaround Sunday night.

Anyhow, attached is a beginners version of M42. Imaged with the Canon 400D through the ED80 and guided with the C8 (DMK 21 and PHD Guiding – great combination). A total of 8 frames all at ISO800 (with incamera subtraction) – 1x10sec, 1x30sec, 1x60sec, 1x90sec, 2x120sec, 1x150sec and 1x180sec.

In regards to image processing, I attempted to process in Photoshop (flying blind) and stacked utilising Deep Sky Stacker.

In summary, very happy the way all the equipment is running, but boy, do I need spend a lot of time understanding post photo processing.

Cheers,

Daniel

Thats amazing Daniel

Particularly for a first attempt.

You've even capture the running man and the trapezium is not lost in the exposure.

Great M42 image Daniel. How did you control the exposures (did you use a Canon remote)?

Well done Daniel, a great start.

Your combination of the various exposures has brought up the Trap wonderfully.

A fine effort

Excellent start Daniel !!!

You've done very well and with practice will get better.
Nice guiding too.
There's a little bit of noise, was it a warm night?

I'd suggest you try to get more exposures, this will help you stretch the levels more.

Congrats on your great start !

Hi Peter,

For exposure control I use the Canon TC80 N3 timer together with an adaptor cable I purchased from Gerald Wechselberger

Very nice. Did you auto guide for the 180sec exposure?

Cheers,

Did the same to my TC-80N3 to connect to my Pentax *istD but I cut it the other way so I can use a standard audio jack to extend to any length I wish. You right the control is awesome to program all the exposures and intervals.
