Music for the Heavens?

I was reading the most recent issue of ASTRONOMY magazine and came across a topic for discussion that sounded interesting to me so I thought I would post it here to see what kind of comment and discussion might come up.

Some time ago when the Voyager craft (I and II) where launched on their journey of discovery a golden disk was included with information about Earth and humans. I believe that samples of language and music were also included. All things that the scientists at the time thought were "representative" of Earth and Humanity.

My question is...

If you could send a musical recording (LP, 8 Track, cassette, CD, DVD etc.)into space for other life forms or future humans to find, what would it be?

Let the games begin!

Me, singing Scots Folksongs and reciting Rabbie Burns poetry. Keep them occupied for a few hundred years deciphering it. After 26 years Aussies still have problems.

I think I would have to send them some classic Rolling Stones and Aerosmith just to keep them wondering what is going on down here.

Cheers

thought hard 'bout this one - immediatley i thought of the sublime classical type stuff, stravinsky's and Mahlers' ect ect. or opera and aria's of the quality of nessun dorma ect/

but limited to one cd - and not a compilation of various stuff
no one could represent humanity better than louis armstrong at his peak, and not that sappy mass market stuff from 60's

mid 1950s european tour best of, with the all stars, when he was starting to sing more and more due to problems due to his embouchure technique with trumpet ect. tin roof blues, tiger rag, st james infirmary ect. would have to be included, sublime, and incorporating just about every aspect of music thats ever been - thats who i would send tp represent us, ambassador satch

music has just gone nowhere since then really, maybe even downhill?
