In the papers again!!!!

Hello all...

Managed to get into the papers again.

Once again following the "backyard universe" theme.

The Sunday Mail in Adelaide have done a follow up article on the one done by the local paper here in the Adelaide hills (The Courier).
It's turned out pretty well I think - double page spread n' everythang!
(M42 colour looks shocking - but it was ok on the page)

I gave them both links to Ice in Space and South Celestial Pole as examples of good amateur sites, but they left out the IIS link!
Suppose it's fair - SCP was left out off the previous article.

All the best

Doug

Great stuff Doug it looks a top article, as Billy Connelly would say your a multi-media personality.

Two different papers constitutes multi-media in my books.

Cheers

Well done Doug, great to have your work showcased, and popularise astronomy at the same time.

Thanks all,

Yeah Mike, I was trying to get over the point that we can achieve satisfying results with modest equipment, but I think that although we know that $3k isn't that much to shell out for an imaging rig many might see that as very prohibitive!! I wish they hadn't mentioned money, but I suppose it's good to know what these pretty pictures are likely to cost ya!
Perhaps a bit of balance on the visual side may have been nice too, and mention of the much smaller costs in getting into that side of the hobby would've been nice.

I'll have to save all these topics for my television show

Cheers
Doug

We had a phone call this morning from our friends in Hamley Bridge SA telling us about the article.

Wow Doug you done it again, fantastic, it is so good that a newspaper has the general public at heart, and finds some new interesting articles to print.

I just wish our local rag would be inspired to such a degree, they are so slack when it comes to something other than the general rubbish they print.

You super star you at least i can say i slept at Doug's place once, had a drink with him, and some food, dose that count dose it

Leon

Thanks all for the kind comments.
Kearn - on reflection $3000 was a little off the mark
Still, you could set-up a rig for that price...just not mine

I wish the journo had included a link to IIS as well as SCP, so that interested parties could see the amazing standard of work being done by everyone who has commented above and others on this site (and SCP).

If this article can bring more into our growing community then..."Sweet!!"

All the best
Doug
