M13 and hello

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum.

I just wanted to say "Hi" and what better way to start than with an image. I live in the south of the UK in a place called Rayleigh (30 miles from London), my skies are light polluted... But I make do

This image is M13 was a stack of 20 images at 30 seconds each. At prime focus of a Explorer 200 F/5 with a Canon 300D. ISO was set to 800. I was particually happy to get the NGC 6207 (top left) which is a mag 12 galaxy in the shot. (didn't get the Mag 16 galaxy which is a shame...)

I'm guessing that as it doesn't get much above about 15 degree's that it may be something unusual for some of you.

Hello Ant. Welcome to the nuthouse.

AArrrrrrrr..... one thing tho.... you might just want to re-size down a bit. 800 x 600 x 100k,I think the images are now attached as thumbnails? link at bottom of page. Check forum rules at top of page. Nice pic. btw. pity you missed the mag 16 glxy.

Firstly sorry about the image

- I'll try and get that sorted for my next post... Thats the "manage attachments" right? I was nearly there with the image file size 128k... and the image size is 900x600 again closeish

I used the insert image button.

Summer, I hate summer. It's currently 32 degree's and for me thats way too hot!

It really cold here at the moment. It is sitting around 24 degrees!

Nah! only joking. It's currently zero here with ice forming on everything but I live up in the hills. Not that cold everywhere in Oz.

Good to have another member from overseas. When I read your posts I will have to read them with a Pommy accent. I read Gazza's with an Irish accent. LOL

Hi ant!

Really nice image, and welcome to the forum.

If you use "manage attachments", it will thumbnail the image, just browse to the image on your local harddrive. Still, keep it under 100k.

If you use the IMG tags like you have, please try and keep it 800x600 and < 100k. We have a few dialup users so we have to be mindful of image size.

btw how did you hear about us?

Enjoy it while it lasts Ant!.. It's cold & rainy here in NZ, and about 9°C.
The nights maybe long, but the clouds are always grey!
Welcome to the forum, and that's a nice image you've got there. Good ole 300D and blue bias coming through. I too have the 300D and while still learning are getting some ok images. See them at the website below.

Hi Ant i'm a scouser but been here fo thirtyfive years so I can call myself an Aussie, welcome to the site, I as my Avatar notes do visual supernova searching, and that galaxy is one I look at when it comes into my sky in our Autum.
My 16"only goes down to about mag 15.8 so the 16th mag galaxy is a bit out of my range.astroron

Ant,
I'm wondering about why you arrived at a monochrome blue result. The luminance of the cluster looks very good, but the color is spurious. How did you process your raws? I have not worked with a DSLR, but basic processing s/b the same as CCD. A shortcoming of the camera w/b a weakness in red, due to an IR block, which wouldn't explain the 100% blue, and blue is always the weakest link in the RGB chain as well.

Nice piccy! And like what 1ponders said we do get M13 here in Brisbane. It not very high in the sky but high enough for me to resolve at 166x and above in my 6" newt!

Warhen, Not sure why the image came out like that, it must have something to do with the processing to remove the LP.

From memory All I did to this image was align and stack the images in ImagesPlus. Then duplicated the background to a second layer and did a Gaussian Blur, then subtracted that from the back ground with a Opacity of around 80%. Then a little adjustment of britness/contrast, curves and Levels.

You're right about the awful red response, looking into the Hutech mod.

Hi Ant & welcome. I'm certainly not a seasoned astro-photography by any means. But I do muck about with a DSLR on occasion. That's a pretty cool pic though.
