The techniques in the book can certainly be carried out in the latest versions of PS, ie. CS2 & CS3.
The new version of PS (CS3) has introduced extra features especially if you work in RAW which makes it the most powerful version to date.

But certainly the book is a wonderful resource for the astrophotographer and the techniques form a great base from which one can build on.
