First attempt at Horsehead and Flame

Taken on 7-12-07 Conditions weren't good, light cloud forming then it would clear also a few wind gusts.

David decided to try imaging anyway (probably not ideal conditions but he was getting frustrated with the recent weather here)

He hadn't taken longer exposures than 5mins with the 6MP Pentax so he wasn't sure how much the camera would capture or how far he can push it.

This is a stack of 7 light frames 6x6mins 1x7min 40sec ISO800 ICNR
Stacked DSS Processed PSCS2

It was difficult for me to get a smooth background in processing (hope I haven't overdone it!) We're reasonably happy with our first attempt and will try under better conditions to capture better data.

That's a very fine first effort, Barb and David. A challenging target especially at that focal length with an unmodded camera.

Probably a bit too overdone on the noise reduction, though.

Very nice composition
And yes a bit overdone, but saying that, if you had more exposures the background and noise should be less.

Nice one Barb and David, that little horsey is a real bugger to catch at the best of times, great effort for a first go.

really good effort, some more exposures and you should pull some great detail. l've been trying to image the HH for ages but terrible conditions lately.

A very nice first attempt, I always enjoy the widefields as everything is put into perspective. With some more exposures you will have a lovely image.

Cheers

Not bad at all Barb and David!
considering the few subs and being unmodded, you have done very well.
Warmer weather doesn`t help also with the longer subs!
Well done

For a first attempt at the HH under adverse conditions you've done an admirable job on it.

Kudos to both of you !

Thats an excellent shot for an unmodded camera as the HH is very difficult to get due to H alpha blocking by the filter. Very well guided too

You're right there Gary. The last couple of subs were overcooked so we couldn't use them
