anyhow... did some 007s' last night checking out a place that would be not too far and a fairly equal distance for all of us (cept mike (sorry)) and came up with badgerys creek. thye have an oval/park there so i had a look. being close to civilisation there is light pollution coming from the east and north east. the rest is reasonable... its in town tho and there is one intrusive street light and a couple of dim house lights to contend with... I didnt stay long cause scaredy cat (cheryl) was with me so my eyes didnt adjust fully... "are you finished yet? i want to go home now!"
it was dark enough that the lmc was a faint but easily seeable smudge. i'd guess the LVM would be around 3.5-4 mag. in the dark section of sky (at a guess)...
All up it is similar to what i get at home so would i call it dark? well no, but its darker than suburbia.... I'll try and think of somewhere else.
seeker has sugested a spot in linden (blue mountians) which is dark, that might be a goer but I'd prefer somewhere closer.
(how dark is it?)

any ideas?
will have to get permission from the powers to be me thinks, should not be a problem though.
