Hi Peter, they are wonderful images. They are very detailed and spectacular and have a touch of the 3D feel about them.
Thankyou for sharing them.
Cheers

I think they make his point about quality equipment quite well. Obviously there is a good deal of operator knowledge playing a part in there as well

yeah, helps having a shop full of good gear, but even a Rolls Royce can be crashed by an idiot. The driver of this gear knows his stuff

Was waiting for you to discover this community Peter, having seen a few of your posts on the SBIG forums. Maybe a few images from an average session, but your gear is far from average. Though I expect nothing less from a reseller. How 'bout giving us a taste your 14.5" RC capabilities. Your NGC 253 was a stunner. Welcome aboard by the way.
Cheers

Nice professional equipment, fantastic photos from a suburban backyard.
But I have to ask the question, without meaning any disrespect or being insulting. What are you doing on a Amateur Astronomy Side. With that equipment and images you should be on equal footing with the professionals. No sour grapes either.

It so nice to see such a great setup as in the Bardon Ridge Observatory. Its obvious that Peter has the knowledge to put such a sophisticated system together but also the talent to take the type of photos we all aspire to. If we manage to take something that we are proud of with our equipment then all credit to us. If that stacks up as being the best we can do with what we have, then we should be pleased. Peter and his ilk lead the way but $ for $ he is easily outperforming large observatories of 10 yr ago. As amateurs all we have to do is wait and just compare what we can do now with what we can do in the furture. Look back 10 years ago and we would never have dreamed of the affordability and electronic integration that is now affordable to entry level amateurs.
Just my 2 cents.
Anyway, Peter, brilliant photos.

Beautiful images, Peter. I love the deep star colours and smooth nebula of M8, and the detail in the arms of M83 is outstanding.
There's no doubt you're a very talented astrophotographer using the best equipment available to amateurs. There's a very good reason you're a multi-award winning astrophotographer.

Barden Ridge Images
Gee thanks guys!
O.K. while I've been known to pedal a few of the items seen in my backyard observatory, US wholesale margins are slim...and to be sure, I spent some serious $$$ setting the system up! But I've been doing (amateur) Astronomy for around 38 years, and what I'm doing/using now is a reflection of that not so small period. Rest assured I still stuff-up imaging sessions on a regular basis!!
The RC is quite new...but since its arrival the Sydney weather has been tragic, hence not much data from it so far. Same story with the back-illuminated camera- which will be going back to the USA in January to fix a annoying noise problem.
My favorite 'scope? The AP130 F6. A truly remarkable instrument...that has produced some of my best images. It's pleasing to see a number of similar, very high quality affordable clones appear over the last few years that I'm sure others will use to capture some wonderful imagery with.
Cheers
Peter
