New Processing Tutorials

I have created a simple tutorial on my website for post-processing with DeepSkyStacker and a Simple Level/Curve colour balance using Photoshop CS2 .

no worries at all guys. They are just quick and dirty guides for beginners who are struggling with processing the image. I'll write up a more informative one and 'might' include unsharp masking

What procedure do you use for the layer masking of (say) the M42 core? Do you just follow Jerry's guide?

Hi Mike, yes i use Jerry's layer mask technique but i do multiple layer masking not just 2 sets of exposure, i overlap one another.

A question (probably silly):
in your guide you state
"Select the grey point button box and click the background of the nebula. This will balance the background colour."

do you mean select a point somewhere in the black background as far away from the nebula (or other object) as possible? or the black background closer to the object?

You have done well, no brilliantly, with this. It is well written and easy to follow and I can't wait to get home and tinker with some of my data so I can unravel some of the mysteries that I think I have captured.

Yet another example of the brilliant work you far more experienced guys (and girls) do in assisting us newbies to this wonderful hobby.

I use M42 as an example. I normally take a few sets of different exposures
eg:

10 x 5 mins (A)
10 x 3 mins (B)
10 x 2 mins (C)
10 x 1 min (D)
10 x 30 sec (E)

Once all these exposures are stacked, to do multiple layer masking, I use set (A) + (B) = (AB)

I then use (AB) + (C) = (ABC)

then it will become (ABC) + (D) = (ABCD)

(ABCD) + (E) = (ABCDE Final Image)
