Ballarat Mine Collapse

Hi Guys, it has just been heard on the news where there are at least 25 workers trapped one kilometer under ground in a gold mine just up the road from me, at Mt Clear.

Efforts are under way for their rescue as we speak, and contact has been made with one of the miners, hope, and prey that all are rescued safe and well.

Oh dear – this is most unwelcome news. I hope that everyone comes out safe and sound. Our thoughts are with the miners, their families and the rescuers for a safe and swift outcome.

Cheers

I used to work as a mine Geologist many years ago, I only lasted a year though, just never felt comfortable underground. Exploration geology was more my style.

It's the darkness that gets to you Leon, you turn off your lamp and you literally cannot see your hand in front of your face even when you are touching it. It is like being totally blind.

I started my working life as a Coal Miner, as my father and uncles, male inlaws and outlaws did. Left as soon as my apprenticeship was completed, "Not a job for man nor beast" IMHO

I went down a coal mine once during my studies, never again.

Soft rock mines are even scarier than hard rock mines, all that creaking really unnerved me.

Cheers
