DMK Mars - Brisbane - Dec 7, 12.08am

You can't blame a guy for being out there, even if the seeing was naff!

We've had clouds and showers for days. So a bit of clear sky was all I needed.

C9.25, 3x Barlow, DMK21AF04.AS, Astronomik red filter.

Just a quick run through Regi4. Best 240 frames of 2000.

Took a few with the ToUcam 840 as well. Might have a quick look for a laugh.

Nice Matt, glad to see someone got out there and made the most of the night. How about using the red channel as a luminance with your ToUcam shot, use the ToUcam for the colour and the luninance for the detail.

Unfortunately, too much time between ToUcam and DMK shots, Paul.

Have a look at how average the seeing was.

To be fair, this was taken earlier in the night when the planet was only at around 27 degrees, whereas the DMK Mars was around 33 degrees.

I also think the seeing picked up a tad by the time I'd settled in for some DMK work.

The thing about the ToUcam is at least the NPH stands out, compared to the DMK. This I believe is mostly the result of the ToUcam's blue channel. From what I have seen, the blue channel captures a lot of the upper atmosphere data like the NPH and cloud formations etc

This will be fixed as soon as I begin capturing in RGB with the DMK.

Matt that is really nice detail that you caught. I am kicking myself when I see shots like yours. For about the past 3 weeks every time i look out its cloudy. Well done!

Hi Ian.

It's been cloudy here too. Trust me.

But I set up anyway with the aim of capturing a few AVIs when Mars pops into a little hole in the cloud.

It's a bit mad, really

Hey Matt

Gee, you are one dedicated planetary dude! I reckon you must have one of those sophisticated “Storm Chaser” electro-gizmo rigs set up in your back yard that can spot a hole in the clouds over the horizon.

But seriously though, it is great to see your superb images and it is also inspiring to see you honing your skills and producing these results in what must be the poorest season I have experienced in Brisbane over the last 7 to 10 years.

Cheers

Dennis
