Heavy duty scheming

Hi,

Gary Beal and I are doing some scheming around getting Carbon Fibre tube from NZ to Australia without incurring the huge fees that the courier companies charge.

There is a possible opportunity to get the tube into Brisbane airport as passenger baggage on Tuesday morning. The tube is about 130cm long and 300mm diameter. It weighs around 2Kg.

I'm searching for some help from anyone in Brisbane who is or can be at Brisbane International airport on Tuesday morning around 8am and who would be able to grab the tube until I can organise pickup by TNT. I know this is a big ask but I figure it cant hurt to ask.

If you think you can help or have an alternative suggestion, could you please PM me by no later than Monday?

Thanks for looking

Lars

Hi Lars

My schedule looks free so far, so unless anything crops up AND provided everything is rinky dinky didge legal, I should be able to help.

Cheers

Hi Dennis,

Legal? US?

Thanks for that. We still have some issues to sort.

I'm fairly sure trafficking in Carbon Fibre telescope tubes is not on the statutes yet! But I'll check with customs to make sure they don't have any issues. I certainly wouldn't want any Federal entanglements.

By way of repayment, I'll of course cover petrol, tolls etc and anytime you are in Bathurst (for the races perhaps) you have a place to stay. Our skies are relatively dark too, certainly in comparison with Brisbane and Sydney anyway.

I'll let you know of progress as it happens.

Cheers and Thanks

Lars

Hadn't really given the legal ramifications too much thought Dennis. Other than it is a used self-built tube, possibly with a couple of wooden plugs to stop the ends getting crushed, it is pretty beneign.
Biggest snag will be whether the airline allows it, and in this sense I won't have much notice, other than "yes it went" or "nope, didn't".
Great community spirit here folks.

No probs – I love airports and airplanes and the coffee and croissants aren’t too bad at the International Terminal. We only live approx 20 to 30 mins from the airport, so I can wait for a late ‘phone call to say it has boarded at your end.

At 1.3 metres length it will easily fit the in the car. Just need to know exactly where to pick it up nearer the date.

Cheers

Dennis

hmmm....tube 130cm long, 30 cm diameter.....thinks......

when I was a lad, I experimented with a tube smaller than that and made a mortar out of it! Aimable...nah! , powerful?.....nah, cause of paranoid response by governmental representative.....quite possible.

best of luck guys, best bet is to check with customs before having placed on board.
