DSI strugglers - Nebulosity

Anyone struggling with a DSI and the junky software supplied, have a peep at Nebulosity by Stark-Labs (same guy who wrote PHD guiding).... I had one quick session with it, and will never fire up the Meade offering again.
Simple. Intuitive. Fast. Cross-platform (plug and play support for OSX). Well supported - the fine focus tool is awesome. Supports a bunch of other cameras too, including a heap of Canon DSLRs.
Without detailed instructions I was capturing images within 5 minutes the other night.
Also offers image processing too.
The only thing it doesn't do as far as I can see is automatically subtract temperature matched darks for you, but this can be a nuisance in Autostar anyway I found.
Definitely worth a look. Very good value.

did you fire that up last night on the PC or the Mac Lee? Does it do a Pentax K10D and a Canon 400D?

Looks good Lee, but I have to think that it's a pity that a software company that ignores support for the world's second biggest DSLR camera maker might have their head on backwards....

400D - yes , Pentax - no (full support link)

I tried initially with the PC, but needed the Meade drivers for the DSI - the only way to get them is to download the entire 120-odd MB installation program from Meade, that took over an hour, so I fired up the Mac. Inbuilt drivers for OSX in the program so off I went! Was too tired to try stuffing about with Windows drivers by the time it had downloaded....

Have since used it on the PC in the daytime, works the same - or appears to anyway!

I thought the same when I was using the D70 more..... Craig Stark seems open to requests for adding support to various platforms though. In astrophotography Nikon is light-years behind Canon though in terms of product support......

Ah!! Plasmodium. I would be the longest struggler, ever, with my DSI, given to me by my wife for my 70th in 2005 and that was at my request. First used a computer in 1968 and such things usually don't fox me, but I gave up with the DSI ($500 approx then). I am just delighted that others are perhaps like me. I will definitely be taking your advice, and may even get out my DSI. Many thanks in anticipation. Cheers Neilzstar

Nebulosity seems like a good program although I've not had the opportunity to use it yet

However, twice now,Whilst I've been using Starrynight pro6,Ive tried to run it & it has crippled SNpro6 &won't allow it to be uninstalled whereupon I've had to seek professional help to remove

Having removed SN pro6 & nebulosity completely,I then re-install SN pro6 & it still runs in a crippled state(some components missing) like there is still some residual registry etc. from the nebulosity program present

Has anyone else encountered this problem,perhaps with other software also?
