Aristarchus Plateau panorama

Hello,

Here is a panoramic view of the Aristarchus Plateau from Tuesday night. The seeing wasn’t quite up to hi-res but I still enjoyed the session. This is a fascinating region of our Moon that seems to draw me there each time the phase, illumination and seeing converge.

Equipment details:
Mewlon 180 F12
TeleVue x2.5 Barlow
DMK21AF04.AS CCD camera

Cheers

Dennis

It is one of my favourite regions as well Dennis. You never know, one day we might get to see a TLP around there... There have been many reports.

On another note, we finally received our sct tring adapter last week, but I have been too busy to drop yours 'round this last week and a half. I might try tomorrow or the weekend... you going to be around?

Tony

Looks good to me Dennis! You've captured a lot of subtle detail there, including on the inner walls of Aristarchus.

Cheers -

Very very nice, Dennis!

Geez, don't let the conspiracy theorists see this pic, they'll say that there are tents in the upper half of the image

Excellent image Dennis, great to see some more lunar images from you.

Did you use a 2x barlow with the DBK?

Hi Tony

We should be in. Just 'phone before you drop round, or if in the area and we're out, just leave the stuff at the front door - thanks

Hi Mike

I got the DMK first (after the $100 price drop) and then acquired the DBK direct from TIS before every man and his dog began distributing them in Oz. The DBK was purchased more as a fun camera for projects such as double stars. The panorama is a 3 pane mosaic.

The DMK allowed me to (relatively easily) grab the series of images for the Trapezium stars, whereas the DBK just produced too much noise and couldn’t pick up the fainter stars as I need to really pump up the Gain and Gamma.

Cheers

Dennis

Nice work, Dennis, despite the conditions

It's been a while since you pointed the 9.25 at the sky? Having too much fun with the M180, I suspect.

Hi Matt

The M180 gives refractor like views, cools down so quickly, doesn’t have a corrector plate to dew up, has a gorgeous Tak permanent finder attached and is so light weight and manageable compared to the C9.25 that is has now become my main 'scope!

I must dig out the C9.25 so I can do some comparisons.

Cheers

Dennis
