Mars, October 21, improving

Like mike I found the seeing was pretty good this morning. Mars is still a hard target due to the low altitude - this image was taken with mars at 31 degrees.

For something different I used my Dragonfly2 camera, but all settings were very similar to before.

Scope: www.acquerra.com.au/astro/lexx.html
capture:

- red channel: 150 seconds @ 40fps, 80% gain
- green channel: 50 seconds @ 40fps, 100% gain
- blue channel: 50 seconds @ 40fps, 100% gain

Stacked about 2500 frames in red and 1000 in each of green and blue. Frames were resampled to 150% size before processing.

Seeing was fair, sometimes maybe 7/10.

regards, Bird

Very impressive Anthony! Can't wait to see what you can do when it's a bit higher!

Stunning image Anthony - how on earth did you manage to pull that one out of the hat so early in the season?

Cheers

It feels like it's early in the season, but the season is almost half over! Opposition is only 2 months away.. I remember fondly the days back in May/June when Mars was high in the south at only 5.4" - before it headed north.

For me the season starts when Mars is transiting in pre-dawn twilight, that's about the time you can start to get serious, and that's happening about now - so for me the season is just starting too!

I think the mars seasons are shorter than Jupiter/Saturn.

cheers, Bird

Wow Bird, very nice work!

The polar region looks terrific.

I hope we turn on the seeing for you at Camp to get some great shots.
