Why Is DSLR Focus in IP not working

Hi Guys,

After Purchasing Image Plus some time ago, i thought i would try and use the Focusing tool which comes with the package.

To Date it has never worked, and i have tried many times, and just gave up trying in the

I always have focused by eye only, without software, but this is bugging me, and i just wanted to see how it worked.

Below is a description of the procedure, is this correct or am i doing some thing very wrong.

Could some kind person have a read please, and see if something is missing.

Thank You.

Leon

Ah Paul you may have it there, to be honest I cant remember what i did there, but i also cant remember if i actually did anything there, if that makes sense, next time i'm out i'll look at that, and John, you have basically said the same thing, i have to tell it to talk to the lappey, not the camera.

Thank you both.

Hi Leon

I was actually refering to the menu in the camera itself, on the 350D you have to go to Menu 4 and change the Communication setting to PC.

EDIT: Do you have the latest WIA drivers installed as well.

Cheers

Something I forgot to ask, you do have the Canon software loaded, do you, specially the capture software. You need that installed on your machine so ImagesPlus can capture the images.

aye, Paul is right.

Read this thread Leon, it might help you.

I'm happy to say I can control my whole imaging night from the laptop now - from focusing, composition through to capturing the whole run.

Tanks Guys, John, yes all that Canon software is loaded and running fine, and Mike I have had a read of the link you provided should get my answers from that, I hope.

Just one thing though, USB cables are mentioned often, so I take it that this lead is the one that came with the Camera, with a USB on one end, and a connection that fits the Canon Camera on the other.

All I want to do is focus, I have no need for any other tools in the program, I already use a TC-80N3 for the times and exposure runs, and also just set the Camera on the ISO settings.

All images captured already go straight to the Lappy when i need to see them, so just focusing is all i was after.

I just wanted to try this, but if it dosen't work it really dosen't matter as I focus pretty well by eye anyway.

Thanks Leon

Yep that is the lead you want Leon. It controls the camera for exposures up to 30 sec and allows you to adjust your various settings via IP and other programs. I use DSLR Focus for that job.
