Are you using a PCMCIA Card? I used to have something similar happen. I contact TIS and they sent me a lind for a Firewire Manager Program that fixed the issue.
I get that sometimes, I have to capture to an external HDD to avoid it and even then I sometimes still get it.
Click ok and try changing the frame rate to 15fps and see if it comes back, or tick and untick "auto" on the shutter speed.
It also happens when something is not connected, if you're not getting power to it or similar.
OK. I'll try those few things. I'm using a Belkin 6-port powered hub, and everything appears to be securely plugged in and working.

No, Paul. Not using a PCMCIA card. I have a four-pin firewire port on my lappy.
I'll download a Firewire Manager prog and see how I go. You wouldn't happen to have a link?
The weird thing is the cam's been working fine right up until the last few days
Check your exposure time. If you start IC Capture.AS and your exposure time is somewhere higher then maybe 1 or 2 seconds the program does not realize that and thinks there is something wrong with your camera.
Try reducing your exposure time and check if the camera now delivers live image preview.
Maybe you have to close the preview window and start the camera again.
Also have you checked that you did not open by mistake twice the IC Capture program ?
Also go into the menu View > Toolbars and click on Show all supported Bars. YOu will see all bars that are supported by that camera and you can immeditely recognize if your exposure time is too long.
If you close IC Capture the next time and you start it again you will have all those tools immediately handy.
I really can not understand how you control your camera by having the bars closed ¿?
I'll go through that list of suggestions. Very helpful.
I'm interested in the suggestion you make about opening the program twice.
I think I've noticed that happening lately. How/why?
I double click the IC Capture icon on my desktop to open the program, but that's never been a problem before. But I think I've noticed something 'strange' happening with that lately.

That screen capture was taken of my partner's laptop, running Vista. The error message appeared before we even managed to get the IC Capture software fully open.
Hi - Matt's partner Rae here on the Vista laptop. Matt's at work today, so we're working together to try to get this going.
We've got all the bars displaying now, changed to 15fps, installed the firewire management program, changed to the Y800 codec. IC Capture keeps freezing and we're still getting the same error message. Updated screen dump attached.
Beginning to think it's a problem with the camera or perhaps more likely the powered hub??
Check your cables Rae. I found I had a few problems initially with mine.
It is strange though that this problem has only started to occur recently. Do you still have the same problem at 15fps if you drop your exposure down to something faster?

Hello,
If you don’t manage to fix it, you are welcome to drop round our place so we can test your DMK on our Notebook, use our cables, etc. to reduce the number of HW/SW variables that may be causing the error message.
Well, we're narrowing it down. We've isolated one firewire cable that was causing problems. The camera is working fine on the Vista laptop.
Now we have a more isolated problem on Matt's laptop. It works fine when the laptop is plugged into mains power, but as soon as it's running on battery power IC Capture launches extremely slowly and the capture freezes.
I'm surprised this would impact since I thought the camera was running off the powered hub. Still, I'm fiddling with the power management settings now to see if they make a difference.
