When I looked at the thumbnail I wasn't expecting such a beautiful image to open up!
This image shows some lovely subtlety.
Well done Eric! I would love to see what you could do with this object when you get a chance to spend more time on it.

Fine image Eric, but are you sure it is ngc 1688? the NGC catalogue has it as a 12mag galaxy in Dorado?

Lovely contrast between the dark and light stuff
you put your 1 and 6 in the wrong spot..
