Finally some hi-res imaging again

Went out Sunday night to do some lunar imaging.. first hi-res imaging in a LONG time, due to seeing, weather, and other things.

Unfortunately the seeing was terrible for the most part, not helped by rapidly dropping temperatures after a warm day and a cold night.

Here's the only 2 salvagable images from the session:
1. Moretus
2. Blancanus, Klaproth and Casatus (South-West of Clavius) mosaic of 2 frames.

12" newt, 5x powermate, DMK21AF04 + Astronomik R filter.

Thanks for looking.

They are good for the seeing.

Number 1 looks excellent. It really looks like a HUGE crater, whereas number 2 looks like the craters could be any size (could be a few feet across).

With number 1 I see it as an enormous crater and all the different levels down the inside wall like a giant open-cut mine. And the hill in the centre actually looks like an enormous mini-mountain!!!

Strange how some things look big and others look small.

Thanks guys.

and yeh Ken, I think it's all a question of perspective. Under different lighting and at different librations, Moretus can look really different.

It's always been one of my favourite craters.

Wow these look amazing on my CRT Mike, great work.
I was about to write the same thing, just as I noticed Ken's post.
Moretus does looks like an open-cut mine, fantastic mate.

That would be impressive lunar craters viewed through a 12 inch newtonian!

Nice work, Mike.

Cheers,

Brian.
