registax point alignment?

hi all,

i downloaded registax4 and have just been trying to take pictures of the moon, but im having problems with the point alignment procedure. i pick points on the image for registax to align and stack, but when registax flicks through all the frames the pionts start to 'wonder' away from where they should be.

a few times the stacked image came out looking like several images poorly stitched together in photoshop.

i don't know if the pionts i pick just don't stand out enough to the program, or because the images change to much from one frame to the next so registax can't keep up. i havent got a clue.

btw: im using a cheap webcam, and filming the moon by holding the cam agianst the eyepiece. nothing fancy.

Are you using single or multi-point alignment?
What size alignment box are you using?
Can you post a sample of what the raw frames look like?

You need to ensure:
a) The box is big enough
b) The feature within the box has a high contrast area that Registax can use to match up between frames.

im using multi-point alignment, and im using 128? size alignment box's.

the clouds started rolling in while i was adjusting the settings on the camera, so i got the settings 'good enough' so as to get as much footage as i could before the clouds came over. hence the poor quality if this image.

I'm just a learner, but I've used Registax 4. I use multipoint alignment and select "estimate best alignment points" in which Registax selects the best points for me. So far I've had it select anywhere from 11 to 33 points. This has worked well for, except for my pics of the lunar eclipse, in which I sufferred the same problem as you. Maybe my box size was too small at 32.

i have tried the "estimate best alignment points" feature, but the problem still arises. im thinking its a result of image lacking contrast, as mike said, but i'll wait for more oppiniuns.

contrast problems .........pick the highest contrast item do a single point run .ifthat works try another point then try two together, it will become apparent how it works after a few runs

i have put a pic in to give you a basic idea of what to look for.

i see you are using a different scale but the process is the same if you can fit a box around the whole moon try that
