Clavius / Rutherford

I captured a lot of data on Clavius last Sunday evening in pretty good seeing. The whole mosaic will take a while to complete but here's the first panel showing a nice view of Rutherford, a prominent crater that forms part of the Clavius group.

Scope: http://www.acquerra.com.au/astro/lexx.html
Capture: 11,000 frames @ 40fps through red astronomik filter, stack 4000
frames

regards, Bird

Holy cow! That is huge! The mosaic will be mind blowing!

Is that upsampled?

Brilliant image Anthony, I can't wait for the final.

It's upsampled by about 25% - I upsampled it 50% before processing and then downsampled at the end by a little bit just to help remove some noise.

Oh my goodness me – I just fell off our Swiss fit ball. What an amazing image Anthony – you seem to have re-written the laws of what is feasible using Earth based instruments.

Cheers

Hi Alchemy, good guess - focal length was around 14000mm, 1810mm native x 7.7 (5x powermate with extension tubes).

Nah, resolution is just under 1km on this image (ie craters 1km in diameter are clearly seen as craters, not just spots). In good seeing I could double the resolution :-)

cheers, Bird
