Wow – just read the sad news on CN that optical designer Thomas M Back of TMB refractor fame has passed away.

My condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.

I had not caught up to this news yet...I had read/heard that he was not well but I did not understand the magnitude of his illness.

His passing is a loss to our hobby...condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues

If he was an artist - as in painter, sculptor, etc - the price of his creations would be skyrocketing right now.

Luckily for those of us in the astro community he WAS an artist indeed, and surely he will be remembered as such for his achievments in optical design.
