Attn SEQ : Leyburn - 14 & 15 Sept

Just a heads up to those in South East Queensland that are keen for some dark skies that the SAS dark sky camp at Leyburn was postponed last weekend due to wet conditions on the field, and will now be held this coming weekend (14 and 15th of September). There will be thin crescent moon visible in the early parts of the evening but will be all but gone by about 8pm - just enough time for those scopes to cool

If you haven't been before and want to know more you can visit the SAS web page ( www.sas.org.au ) where there is a pdf containing all the details of what is available and what you need to bring, or alternatively post any questions here.

Weather reports are not looking good but I am always the optimist and I think we will have excellent skies Can't wait to frame those faint fuzzies in the 10".

I took the risk and made it to Leyburn last night despite driving through some very dismal weather. When I hit Toowoomba it did look like it was going to storm. But after chatting with Andrew on the mobile, he persuaded me to continue (thanks for tha Andrew) I carried on and was rewarded. Only had to wait for about 1/2 hour before the skies started to clear to a glorious, if a little bit moist night. Spent the night chasing down the brighter stuff and then followed on with some smallish galaxies in Pegasus. Overall a great night. The highlight would have to be seeing exensive mottling in NGC 253 the silver coin galaxy in the 10"

Anyway...

Darren
