Gravity Discovery Centre

Driving into Perth from Port Hedland the other night I saw signs for this place http://www.gdc.asn.au/seestars.php near Gingin. Never heard of it before but looks interesting and offers a chance to look through some decent sized scopes from relativity dark skies

Never heard of it??? How long have you lived in Perth, then, Beren? It must be at least 6 years since it opened, I remember a trip up there in 2001 when the Southern Cross Cosmos Centre (The public obs there) was just a concrete slab in the sand. The main research facility is run by UWA and it now has a large public outreach centre for school kids and anyone else interested in gravity and physics.

There's a gravity discovery centre just outside the door of my local pub.

I've had a look in the Gravity Discovery Centre. I used to to drive from Bunbury to Geraldton about every couple of months to visit my daughter and grandkids. Stopped there a couple of times on the return trip, well worth a visit.

Can't help myself...

Nooooooo!
I just can't resist these bad thoughts any any longer...

MY first evil thought was that the "Gravity Discovery Centre" was a bit of a downer, and was only created to suck in customers.

MY second evil thought was this place was an advanced Child Care, where little children are learning to walk...

Really sorry, but I do now feel so much better now!

NOTE: I'm sure its a great place! So please forgive me?

Beren, I have to agree with Blue Skies - where have you been for the last few years?! I've never been there myself, but have known about it for some time.

Must agree with other WA'ers in the know. We go up to the cosmos centre three or so times a year during the warmer months. Great place and very friendly people and most important, no rushing. (the roll off roof needs to be seen to be believed!! Lots of extreme envy there.)

Last year they had a mock "Death of Pluto" day hosted by Peter Birch who was the head of the Perth Observatory a few years ago. We had a funeral procesion, piper and all and Pluto is still pride of place in a red silk lined casket inside the Gravity Centre.

Just an example of the other things they get up to out there.
