Hoons

Should the NSW government and it's state government government peers introduce a ZERO TOLERANCE for hooning on public streets and roads (anytime anywhere) , one strilke and your licence is history , and kiss good bye to the car (it's now longer your's , it is automatically gifted to the Police Force for use as a patrol car - but you just have to keep paying the loan off) policy , and introduce crippling monster sized on the spot fines ?

Yes I'm mighty annoyed by these cretins taking over wharf road , Kormorant Rd , the bypass and the industrial HW , and the car parks near Nobbys BW and beach and making a hell of a racket in my local neighbourhood most nights of the week (all hours of the night).
Have had several near misses where they have been street racing and run stop signs and red lights and near wiped me out , and am no longer game to park at Nobby's Beach car park overnight to go up Nobbys to fish through the night - likely to come back and find the car side swiped or written off.

Lost count of the number of times I have called the cops when in town and they are hooning anywhere near me , even given number plates and descriptions of the cars and drivers when I see them , or called the cops when at home to complaign when woken up by reving and screeching tires.

Do these idiots leave their brains at the garage door as soon as they drive down the driveway ?

They never had any brains.

In the Sydney CBD there was a lot of trouble along Hicksons Rd on Friday nights a while back; one of the hoons cars was crushed and is in the roundabout at the northen end as a reminder.

Second time the car is crushed, as above.

Crush them, crush them, crush them...hows that for good thoughts.

I am concerned about these kids...maybe they come from families where they were subject to nutritional deprivation... maybe they have no bank close by where they can save their money...maybe they have too much money... maybe they are mentally challenged and have fallen for the promos that fast cars are cool... maybe the car racing on TV boils their brains.... they just need educating maybe... crushing their cars with them in them could well demonstrate the peril of being in a car accident.

Anyways crush them all

No need to crush them, mate.. that's what they will do themselves.. if police let them go away with their car and driving license. Perhaps killing someone else in the process.
Collateral damage, eh?

Remember we were kids once and we did stupid things but we did have a general fear and respect of authority, respected most elders and teachers, and respected peoples property and the community.

However young people these days respect no one not even themselves, anarchy reigns.

Young people are not taught to respect others, acorporal punishment was removed from home and schools because Johnny shouldn't be smacked even when he's naughty.

We loose sight of the big picture when we over protect the guilty and innocent by removing the ability of a minority in positions of authority abusing their power instead of ensuring the guardians are guarded.

Remember, "the needs of the many outweight the needs of the few or the one"

I'm all for punishing the hoons, if you are caught being an idiot then you should pay the price...

What does annoy me, is that the minority of idiots tarnish the rest of the car enthusiasts, like myself, with the same dirty brush and we all have to pay for someone else's complete disregard for road safety.

by all means crush a few cars to get the message across, but you will find people going out and buying $500 bombs and thrashing those around instead..

Car enthusiasts who don't make a pest of themselves or behave in antisocial or illegal manners I have no problem with what so ever, though it can be annoying when lots of them gathers and it becomes impossible to get a park near my favourate fishing haunts....but hey they are just as entitled as I am to enjoy a nice avo or evening or night near the beach or the foreshore , and it is nice there in summer.

We've got a few hoons living in our street, unrelated and in different houses. All own sports cars with exhaust pipes bigger than my head, the low frequency hum when they drive by causes my windows to resonate and make a huge amount of secondary noise. Problem is they are shift workers ... one of them starts idling and revving at 4.30am, the other at 5am, and another at 6am. You can see them on the weekends, bonnets popped .. tuning their cars and polishing their exhaust pipes

Oh they drive me nuts. Note to self: never ever live near a major shopping centre or fast food joint like McDonalds/HJ - they attract hoons like crazy!

Easy, if you don't like living in an area where the youth act like you did when you were young, move to a nicer neighbourhood!

Cheers,
Jason.

Why should he leave ?.... he's not the one doing the wrong thing , he's entitled , hoons don't have a right to behave in dangerous and antisocial manners and their behaviour is illegal , and there are laws against noise pollution too.

The guys he describes sound like real ignoramuses and they obviously don't give a toss about anyone else . luckily young hoons eventually all leave mummy's and daddy's home and lots of them kill themselves in "accidents".

His best bet is to make a pest of himself making complaints to the cops and the local council and back these up by keeping records / logs of when and who and cars and licences plates and what is happening , it works.

regardless of the rights or wrongs ... this is the best solution, find somewhere nice , quiet and civilized.

you will not change the rest of society, and you will wear yourself out trying.

Give the hoons an alternative.

We all have hobbies. As amateur astronomers, we are probably mainly a quiet bunch, with RA and Dec motors humming quietly in the back yard.
What these hoons do on the road is unacceptable, but whenever I see a story on the news that someone has crashed their car and it shouldn't happen, etc, etc, there is no mention of any outlets for these people's enthusiasm, in a safe and controlled manner.
I have been a member of car clubs and motor racing clubs for the past 7 years, and these clubs cater for car enthusiasts, whether you want to go on a cruise with heaps of other cars, or race around a track, or do a show and shine and show off your nicely prepared car etc. Some places like Calder Park in Vic offer legal off street drags on a Friday night, and I'm sure other venues around the place offer drag nights. Many cars are being marketed on their performance levels, so if you go out and buy one of these 500 hp things, you may as well see what she can do, in a safe and controlled manner.

Cheers

Sorry .... never in my case , was too busy working shiftwork and studying and the cars I bought were the likes of Mazda 323s (1300 and 1400 ccs), and pulsars (1200 cc) when I fished school and in my early 20s, power machines they were not.
Then I became a family man, and upped to a station wagons , hooning was the furthest thing from my mind.

The sound of a reving engine does absolutely nothing for me and never did.

The only good excuse to buy such powerful machines is to tow something like a big heavy boat or caravan, otherwise, there is no reason to own one, and they should certainly not be sold to teens and people who don't have a good legitimate (and legal) reason to buy them.
