Powering laptop off 12V

What sort of adapter do I need to power my laptop off my 12V battery (or car cigarette plug)?

It's a Dell Latitude D600.

Would something like this be suitable? (dick smith). The downside is, it's $148.

Is there anything else?

Our Paul (I think) is using some sort of inverter for his laptop.

Mike - I'd try using a pure sine wave inverter (rather than a cheaper modified sine) off your car battery or another 12v power source that you might have access to.

Here's a 300w unit from Tricky's for $144 that'd do the job admirably (plus you can use it for plenty of other things such as charging your phone or whatever other 240v appliances you have):

Looks good, more affordable. Is there something similar at DSE? There's no jaycar near me at work and I was hoping to get something at lunchtime.

There's a jaycar near home but I won't be able to get there this arvo.

I just found one at DSE, it is a Targus brand. Reduced from $150 to $110.

Will try it out tonight. Need the laptop powered to keep Jacob entertained

The one I use is a Kerio Energy Night. It does the trick admirably.

I have a couple of Projecta Laptop power adaptors, they have a adjustable voltage selector to suit any laptop, you can get them from most Auto Parts stores for around $60. I use one on my Laptop and one to Power My Meade LX200 off my feild battery, they have 15, 16, 18. 19. 20, 22, 24, volt settings at 3.5 amps.
