Dr Who last night (Aug 25)

Hi guys,

Anyone see this episode.
Dr Who must be true. I bet his girlfriend, who he left his writings of his dreams as a Time Lord with, went on to work for the BBC and create Dr Who!

Regards

Glenn

I missed the start of this series so I haven't watched any, couldn't bear to watch them out of order.... I'm going to have to wait and buy the DVD.

Did Sydney Newman Exterminate Joan Redfern?

Had the character Joan Redfern been the creator, she would have been born about 1890, making her roughly 73 years-old.
In reality, much of the production of the first series was made by a select Committee of writers of the BBC in 1963. There is also some debate if the BBC Head of Drama, Sydney Newman, really came up with the idea, but it certainly wasn't the regular writer Terry Nation whose notable claim to fame was to create the Daleks.
Perhaps even more spooky is that in the episode you refer has Doctor Who referring to his parents as "Sydney and Verity", a fitting tribute to both Sydney Newman and the show's first producer Verity Lambert.

Therefore, the Question...

Did Sydney Newman Exterminate Joan Redfern?

Sidrat

I also loved the quote seen in the Smith's journal...

"Maius intra qua extra" - what is inside is greater than what is outside

I reckon it's fantastic what the writers are doing with the the Dr Who character itself.
He is becoming quite a dark character which is something I really haven't seen in earlier series, there were glimpses but it was never really developed.

Great stuff

I watched it curled up on the sofa bed with my two boys, Tom 9yrs and Jack 10yrs.
The boys said that they loved it because it was crazy.
I'm proud to be bringing up the next generation of Dr Who fans.

A great two-parter (though the Family was "locked up" fairly easily in the end). The final moments at the tribute service were nice. Well produced!
