Adelaide's New Doppler radar.

Hi all,

Just thought I would post a couple of images of the new doppler radar North of Adelaide. I was out there while Geocaching this arvo.

http://www.saweather.net/temp/radome.jpg Quite a bit of heat refraction so
image looks yuk.

http://www.saweather.net/temp/gates001.jpg The main gates with the Dome
behind them and car infront of them.

It's almost completed.

WOW this gives me an idea, how about this.....

Yes and No gaa_ian. It does the usual rain reflectivity but also does a wind profile of the rain event, giving us better detection of rotating currents (tornadoes) It also does quite a bit more which I am not knowlegable on. There are 5 others being built around Australia, but this is the first.

Long as its not used for a repository/dump for the rest of Australia's (and the worlds) nuclear waste - thats all that matters

The dome is actually about 2km off the closest main road, being the port wakefield road. It is located at a place called Buckland Park which serves as a research facility which also does meteor counting via radio waves aswell. I think the Dome looks quite modern and only there to serve as a cover for the radar dish, if you think that is ugly then take a look at some of the observatory domes around the place, at least they serve they're intended purpose.

Ving: I have found about 38 Caches now. I don't own any though.

For those that go with the Golfball theory, it doesn't have dimples LOL
