How to transfer files from hard drive to DVD-RW?

I just bought a heap of DVD R-W discs with 4.7GB of storage on each.

I remember back in the old days, you could just click and drag your files onto discs. Now I cant.

It keeps coming up "Unable to create" and "File system error (16389)"

Can anyone tell me how to do this? My astrophotos are taking up a lot of room on the HD now and I need to file them somewhere else..

Baz.

The most reliable way is to create a data disc using use the software that came with your DVD burner.

It is possible to set up so you can drag and drop onto CDs or DVDs but for me it was always a bit flaky and unreliable, so I stick with the DVD burning software.

Is there any free dvd burning software on the net you can recommend for this simple task of making picture files for storage on the DVD_RW?

I think there is a Burner built into Windows XE (Windows Media Player). I think it is CD only.

Yeah join the club!
Should be ok, but as others have said you might best be served by using a burn program.
Not much about for free I don't think, but if you work like Trojan for the next 10 days this might help:

That windows media seems to only work for CDs .
I have Nero and it seems to work ok, only even when I try to run a multi-session disk burn it still closes the disk off! one file of 350K and that is all I get out of a 4.7g disk ; multi-session works for CDs though.
If I try to drag and drop files, my system simply places them in a folder waiting for the Burn s/w to be given the go ahead to burn.
Anyways try Nero if you like and maybe buy it sometime down the track....
well, time for my warm glass of milk and off to beddy byes

Cheers,
Doug

All good fellas! As it turned out, I had a copy of Nero from when I had to edit some videos for my dad from his trip to Italy. His new camcorder came with it.

I just tried it and it worked a treat. I can now breathe a sigh of relief to know that from now on, if I lose the PC, I haven't lost everything!

Thanks for the leads.

Baz.
