Celestron CG-5 Mount

My CG-5 is starting to get a little sloppy.
Is anyone familiar enough with these to advise the bst way to tighten it up a bit?? Or should I pass it over the the experts???

If the latter, can you recomend anyone in Melbourne.

Cheers, Bryan

Hi Bryan

What do you mean by sloppy? As in backlash when changing directions?

I'm not sure about doing it yourself, but if you wanted an expert I'd probably try Roger Davis at Bintel Melbourne as a first step. I don't think Bintel sell those mounts, but I know Roger has done a lot of mount upgrades and revamps and may well have done it on this type of mount before.

This site shows how to completely strip the mount, but if you look through there is a section on adjusting the worm gears http://www.astronomyboy.com/cg5/
I regreased my own mount recently and the worm adjustments are easy to make but very fiddly - you'll end up adjusting them a dozen times before it's just right.
