The Big Move
Just thought I'd share a little news from home with all of you.
My time in the nation's capital is rapidly coming to an end.
As of August, I shall be living in sunny BrisVegas
My partner, Rae, has been offered a fabulous opportunity with the Queensland Performing Art Centre and I'm tagging along for the adventure!!
I'm pretty excited about the move and thrilled that I can be supportive of her as she pursues her 'dream'. At the same time, I'm a little sad to be turning my back on the various pots I've had on the boil here in Canberra.
However, I am sure there will be new and exciting opportunites awaiting me, once I get settled in and start the 'networking' process all over again.
And let's not forget...there are a whole bunch of QLD IIS members who I will now be able to meet and get to know.
So, it's all good, as they say

Good luck with the move Matt, I'm sure you wont miss the crisp -5 sessions under the Canberra skies. You'll have to find yourself a nice dark sky spot away from the bright lights though.
Cheers

Hi Alex.
That group night sounds good. I'll need to get together with some new observing buddies pretty fast, so those nights in Casino will definitely be on the agenda
BTW ... how far is it from Brisbane to Casino?
I'll say hello to that bloke that owns the pub... if I ever venture that way.
As for the Big Brother thing???? I'll pass on that
Cheers, and thanks for the kind words.
Ric - will definitely be seeking dark skies. Am hopeful some Brizzy locals can recommend a few choice locations.

You can camp at my place any time and use my stuff to save you transporting... or just put your scope on my mount if you want some snaps.
anyways unpack the boxes first.

Looking forward to meeting you (both) and having some wonderful nights out under the stars. Good luck with the whole moving shebang!
Let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Likewise, Dennis. And thanks for the offer.
Will be great to say "G'day", face-to-face, after so much communication via IIS and chatting over the phone

I'll sit back and watch your light pollution meter go off the scale
Good luck with the move. Now you'll have to find a new job as well!

Just as well I'm a planets kinda guy, hey Ken?
Thanks for the kind wishes. Yeah, finding a new job is a bit of a bummer. I'm already sending out loads of CVs etc ahead of my arrival.
I've also applied for a few jobs which are currently advertised.
Hopefully, something will come up quite soon. Otherwise I'll just have to wrestle with the concept of being a 'kept man'.

hey Matt, you wouldn't happen to be moving before august - because the best way to meet the locals would be at Qld astrofest!!!!
BTW, congrats on the opportunity to get cheaper fuel

Hey Matt
Congrats! and best of luck, I'm envious. I'll try to catch up with you in a few years in QLD! It's getting a bit cold down here!

Moving and leaving people and places behind is always sad, but I think you'll find plenty of equally wonderful folk and places up here Matt (and a winning State of Origin team ).
Apart from Brisbane itself you have the Gold and Sunshine Coast (with more of us IIS'ers up here too) . There's also the Brisbane Astro Society, South East Qld Astro Society, etc, etc if you want a more formal club as well.
Personally I'd say just accept Ron's invite to a night's viewing at his place - the skies are dark, the people are friendly, and there's room for plenty more scopes yet!
Hope to meet you sometime soon,
Steve

hey h0ughy. Am definitely looking at Astrofest. Might be a little tough having just arrived and still in the process of looking for a place to live
Would love to go, though. As you say, would get a lot of meetin' and greetin' done in the one go. Hmmmm.
Definitely good news on the fuel

Hi Frank. Would be great to say hello up north. I heard you were also on the move? Or have you already moved?
Cheers, and talk soon.

Thanks, mate. Would be great to catch up with you too sometime in the near future.
Ron can most certainly add me to the list of attendees at Cambroon As soon as I get settled and locate Cambroon on a map
Thanks everyone for your kind wishes and warm welcome/invites. It is much appreciated.
