A pash in the Moonlight - celebrating the blue moon
Tonight I actually got permission to go and take some photo's of the Pasha Bulker, knowing they cancelled the tow off tonight, I thought I would try to get some happy snappys at night of the ship in plight!.
This also coincided with the Saturn Venus conjunction, and a Blue Moon. What a treat. And for the first time in 5 weeks its not raining..............a beautiful windy clear night. It was a balmy 14 degrees but with that strong westerly it felt more like 4 or 5.
my Venus Saturn shot is blurred, but that's what you get when you perch the camera on the roof of the car and hope for the best - taken from Scott Alders place.
The rest of the shots were taken from the ocean baths at Newcastle, near the cowrie hole......
They are an ordinary effort, but given the stiff breeze they are not too bad. But man the lineup of ships out there is amazing......
There's an Orange coloured UFO in pic number 6 in the 1st post!!!! Just above the ship on the far right
Again, great pics of the Pasha event Mr. Houghmeister
Ken it is the harbour master/pilot going out to a ship in a helicopter to bring it in. Al and I went in when it was high tide hoping for a tug of war event - alas, not to be tonight.
I set some shots up level with a bubble level on top then moved the camera by panning. Well didnt notice until after, gives it that batman feel!!!
oh... and I thought it was part of the salvage operation... it's easier to pull downhill...
(Nice photos BTW Dave. Haven't had a glimpse of the Saturn/Venus conjunction due to clouds... haven't seen the Pasha in person ... due to distance and terrain. So thanks for the pics! I do like existing light photography!

Al for the record the Pasha is inclined from Stern to Bow Naturally, that's because its sitting on the reef that way so if you make the silly mistake of lining up on the ship and getting it right the horizon goes to pieces, then you have the effect of perspective Vanishing points that make the horizon seem like its not right, not to mention the curvature of the earth with a ocean horizon, after 25k's the world disappears And it was in the dark, howling cold wind, and Alan made me do it. THe cat had kittens and the cow jumped over the moon (tried to capture that one considering it was a Blue Moon) . OK OK I stuffed up
i also thought you may have been given permission from the lovely wife for astronomy and a pash!!!!.... but oh well
No afraid not she had other motives I know she loves me and I love her but the truth was she was doing school work preparing lesson plans and such for next term, so I was a hindrance until i become useful, like fixing her formatting problems for her lessons
get out from under my feet you kids..... that includes you too David Augustus Sheridan Hough.... you big kid! (and in her best black american negro womans "attitude" voice) AND don't you be a thinkin you can come tappin me on the shoulder........ i will bite it off.... i will be a tellin you when you have to surprise me with affection!!
