Damian Peach's first Barbados images

Just received this email from Damian with links to his first images after his recent trip to Barbados..

I imagine there's plenty more to come! Incredible details, again a new standard has been set - the bar raised even higher!

Quote:
Hi all,

Here are the first Jupiter images from the latest trip from which i returned a couple of days ago. Weather was mostly excellent, but had some deterioration near the end as the hurricane season kicked off.

I've attached links to an RGB sequence as well as a slightly more contrasted G image for nice visualisation of the smaller details. Image data/info is found below the mail footer.

Many more images to come in the weeks ahead....

Wow is right!

Detail and image scale are both impressive.

Holy snapping ducks droppings that's amazing Mike. you would swear that they have come from an orbiting satelite.
What sort of equipment does he use?

Cheers

yeh they're very fine. He uses a C14 with a lumenera skynyx, I think.

I just read Matt's article/interview with Damian in the current issue (just received today) of AS&T. It's a very fine article, Matt. Very well written and a great insight into the man we all look up to.

Thanks for the links Mike - simply stunning images aren't they. Quite extraordinary considering they are Earth based. Where to from here I wonder? Can the bar be raised higher?

Apart from tuning his equipment and traveling to a good seeing location, the man has a rare talent in producing these amazing images; so laden with detail at such a huge image scale.

Cheers

Dennis

Not meaning to sound negative, but why worry about 'The Bar'. Just do your best and enjoy what you are doing. Maybe someone will one day get better images, maybe not. Great if they do, but it doesn't matter. It's the journey that matters.

I'd like to take great images like that too, but I'm happy plodding along and pleasing myself with my images, and lifting my own goals.

I agree, they are fantastic images. But I feel sorry for people new to Astrophotography when they see statements like "a new standard has been set - the bar raised even higher!" Kinda makes em feel left waaayyyy behind.

Maybe I'm wong.

maybe I'm just waffling too

I love seeing Damian's work - and many others as well. I love to see everyone who wants to, "Have a Go!" If we compete, it should be with ourselves (unless it's a Cloudy Nights photo comp! ) We are all going to be blown away by Hubble, anyway, until it dies

Ken will remember how excited I was to capture a crap AVI of Jupiter and its moons at Snake Valley with an el-cheapo webcam. A bit of quick processing (so-called) and I slapped it up on the site here. As I recall, everyone was kind enough to say nothing about a big white circle and three small white dots () except Rob, who thought it would be fun to try! I've picked up lots of ideas from everyone else's postings and look forward to making some improved efforts when I can settle down with the right equipment.

I do think a "Beginners" forum under Images and Photography could be useful, as has been suggested.

Good idea. In CN I post most of my images in the 'Beginning Imaging' section. It's a good place for those just starting out. Lots of helpful simple tips in there for beginners.

Hi all,

Been working through the data during the last week or so, but stopped to process another one up. Another great night. The GRS is just past the meridian with interesting details on the f.side. Several anti-cyclones scatttered across southern latitudes. The SEB revival source is coming into view at the edge. The area from the NEB northward is very turbulent.

Thanks Mike.

Just when you think that the pinnacle of what is possible from Terra Firma has been achieved, Damien does this; his images just keep on getting better and better.

I’m not too sure about the “hard edge” on the band below the GRS – it looks a little out of place against the other features that have that more natural look. Unless of course, it has a harder, more contrasty edge….

Cheers

Dennis
