Long Weekend in Bright

Anna and I arrived home today after a nice and relaxing long weekend in Bright. With all the catastrophe and disaster going on up north, it really makes you stop and realise how lucky we really are at times.

We happened to meet up with Rob (Rob_K), Doug (Hagar), Shawn & Zac on Saturday night at Porepunkah Aerodrome for some observing.
We would just like to say thanks guys for your hospitality it was a most enjoyable evening even if it was cold for you lot. You'll have to invest in freezer suits.
Rob, we hope you found your car key on Sunday morning? We we're going for a drive down the Buckland Valley for lunch and noticed your car was gone, so thought everything must of been ok.

It's funny sometimes how we never really stop to appreciate the beauty of where we live. I moved to N.E. Vic from Melb approx. 20 odd years ago and having worked this area intensely, I have never really taken the time out to stop and smell the flowers and look at the beauty in our own back gardens. I'm glad I did this weekend!
  1. Winter awaits the Chestnut tree.
  2. 5 Star accommodation in Wandiligong.

Glad you enjoyed your weekend John & Anna, and it was nice meeting you. Thanks so much for your help, both with observing and, of course, the "rescue"! I posted an observation report, but these tend to get lost in the forum, stuck in a little line above the main observing section! Found the key out in the paddock on Sunday morning, and the car & contents safe & secure. Phew!

Bright's a popular tourist town, and any time IISers might be visiting & feel like a bit of observing, just PM me and there's sure to be someone in our little group who would be happy to join you. Doug emailed me yesterday and said how much he enjoyed Saturday night.

Cheers -

We're glad you found your key and your car safe and sound, Rob. We'll have to do it again in the not too distant future.

Wandiligong is a National Trust Town and there is some interesting old and new buildings about but I think it would be great to stay in that old shack a night.

I can remember as a little kid, when we lived in Melbourne we use to go to Bright for holidays and can remember swimming in the Mickey Mouse pool beside the river. Such a long time ago that was, wonder if it is still there??

Yep Peter, the pool is still there. But a couple of years ago they decided that after 30 or 40 years of service Mickey & his mates were too old-hat, and repainted it with a Nemo theme! The pool was not filled last summer because of water restrictions, and apparently they're going to upgrade the pool next summer ("they" being Council!).

Weekend outing

Hi John, I enjoyed Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised when I looked at my images. At least one was worth the cold. The little ED 80 did well.

The night was worth the cold, Doug.

Excellent image, with shots like that you better start posting some more of them.
