I double checked the cable last night and it turned out to be a parallel port connection not a serial.

I dont know if that makes any difference to you?

I have a number of serial to usb adapters, but no parallel to usb. I was hoping to match up with existing equipment without buy extras. Thanks for the additional info though, hopefully it will help to sell it for you more quickly anyway.
