Another Comet Atlas

Thank you for viewing. Combination of 5,7 and 10sec lights, total of 18mins. From 19.10.24 in Brisbane. Also used darks, flats and dark flats. stacked in DSS, modified 600D , 50mm lens and homemade tracker. There appears to be a halo about the core of the comma. Not sure if this is true or a stacking artefact. Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob,

Great photo but incorrectly named.

This is comet C2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan ATLAS) not comet ATLAS.

The ATLAS observatory is an automated system, Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System. It discovers a lot of comets as a by product of its main mission.

There are currently 13 comets in the sky all bearing the name comet ATLAS alone plus a 14th dual name object (Tsuchinshan ATLAS) that you have imaged.

While we may currently know which comet you are incorrectly referencing now, this post will remain in archive for a long time. You should learn to correctly designate them using the year and discovery order C/2023 A3. You can optionally add the name (Tsuchinshan ATLAS) not ATLAS.

Joe
