M8 Lagoon Nebula

We took a few shots of Lagoon 5 weeks ago, when we did the session our alignment and focus needed improvement at the time. ( We're still working on that weather permitting)

Combined effort David taking the images and stacking three of them in DSS and I decided to play in PS while we have cloudy and moonlit conditions.

Taken on 24/4/07 Three images stacked in DSS Processed in PS

Pentax ist DL

1 X 60sec ISO 1600 - 1 x 120sec ISO 800 - 1 X 200sec ISO 800

Other than a little tracking error that is a great effort, well done.

Very nice Barb, you two have captured a lot of nice detail in that image, it's great to see teamwork going on like that. There is a little bit of tracking to sort out as Leon said, but none the less it's a lovely image.

Cheers

Thanks Leon & Rick, yes the tracking was not good with this image but we thought we would try and see what we could draw out of the stacked image with PS. Still in a learning curve with PS and working on our tracking.

Just working on some old images until we can get everything right and take some better images.

Very good, but I think you may have clipped the black point there, the background is unusually dark and the nebula darkens off at the edges a bit too dramatically, i think so, anyway, other than that, its great!

Thanks for the comments Nick and Louie

I noticed a lot of images of Lagoon were processed in this colour so I had a try at it myself.

I'm just a beginner in this processing game so any hints are welcome

We're working with very basic equipment. Just the Skywatcher 8" Newt EQ5 mount with dual drives with a " rack and pinion focuser " and the basic Pentax ist DL.
