Rain and new gear

Well my Argo Navis arrived the other day and my canon lens adapter for my STL-11000M. Well what do you no its been raining for a week now. We hardly get rain in Rockhampton and this week already we have had 35mm. Its true what they say about rain and new gear. Its cool but we need the rain. The stars are not going anywhere.

Tell me about it! I just spent the last month configuring new gear and am itching to get out and test it all. I don't mind either though, my work dries up when the ground dries up so, rain rain rain. At least until the new moon.

I'm quite happy if you blame me. Even though it's not mine, I've just taken possession of a 10" LX200R and a "quantity" of accessories.

We should suggest to the PM we all get a large grant from the Government to buy astro gear to produce rain! It sounds like it beats praying!

LOL
By the time this lot of rain stops, I'll have enough money saved for a c-mount lens for my camera.
Well they did predict winter rain.

It might well work with astronomical gear, Phil, but is sure as heck doesn't work with painting. We (my wife and I) recently had installed a new set of back stairs. For the first coat of paint I prayed for dry weather - which dutifully arrived. Then, because I'm a lazy so-and-so, I prayed for rain so as defer the inevitable. It didn't happen.

Coat number four is partially applied and I'm looking out at the clouds as I type. Reprieve! It's not raining, but it sure as heck is threatening.

I do know, though, why this happened. Yesterday afternoon was looking reasonably clear and so I dragged out the dusty Dob in preparation for an hour or two's viewing. You guessed it: the sky clouded over.

I've been doing my bit for WA amateur astronomers by having my gear broken for 10 weeks and now my observatory out of order with the lining in progress for another 4 or so weeks total. I know I know, it's a tough sacrifice, but it means lots of clear cold nights have been had by many others

rain, rain

More rain because I bought a Coronado. Wanted to look through it last week end - not a chance. I've had it a month and have had two peeps at the sun so far. As for stars - have they all gone out, because every time I look longingly at my LB in the shed, the sky is completely covered. Ever since before Xmas here in Brissie, we have had more than our fair share of cloud.

Looking pretty cloudy for the immediate future in the Sydney area too. Doesn't look like it's going to clear until well into next week (although long range forecast can change). Hopefully we'll get some rain out of it as it's no good for observing.

Our verandah has a badly leaky roof, right along the join line to the house.
Of course when it's fine it doesn't need fixing, now it's raining we can't fix it.

Run, run...then rain, rain

Well, last night was awesome - cool with low humidity. So, I had a decision to make. The last few weeks have been busy with head in the books doing uni assignments so I have had to curtail my regular running program. (Yes, I am one of those crazy people you see running around sweating like oversized hamhocks wearing a baseball cap) Anyway, last night was both perfect running conditions and perfect for star gazing...a quick look at the weather forecast...yeah tomorrow night will be fine too...running conditions too good to miss, so off I go.

Great run, but now the weather has turned to "you know what"...

Darn, but then again we do need the rain. Perhaps Sunday night will be better, clearer, cool, low humidity....

Someone must have bought the James Webb Scope too, doesn't look like this is going to stop at one, there is a possibility of two more ECL's after this one.
